Paddlin' the Pigeon

French Broad Riverkeeper

Starting on Monday May 5, the French Broad Riverkeeper is paddling the entire length of the Pigeon River to help raise awareness of the environmental issues that are impacting our watershed.  This week long trip will feature environmental education programs conducted with local schools, a tour of the Blue Ridge Paper plant, and a rafting trip courtesy of Smokey Moutain Outdoors. Follow the trips progress through the local media and the Riverkeeper's Paddlin the Pigeon blog.

Events for the public include:

Tuesday May 6 - tour of Blue Ridge Paper plant in Canton, NC; meet at 12:30pm at Canton Recreation Park

Friday May 9

12:00pm Elected officials and the public are invited for lunch and to raft the Pigeon River. Rafting trips have been donated courtesy of Smokey Mountain Outdoors, but donations to RiverLink are appreciated. We will meet at Smokey Mountain Outdoors in Hartford, TN. http://www.smokymountainrafting.com/gatlinburg_tennessee.shtml

Saturday May 10

7:00pm Come catch your own trout at English Mountain Trout Farm and celebrate the successful conclusion of the Riverkeeper's successful paddle. This restaurant features a trout pond where you can catch your own dinner for them to cook, or you can order off the menu. Beer and wine will be provided.

"Earth" by Auden Harwood

Every part of earth is great, just like you!

All the critters of the earth are the critters of God.

Running rivers of the earth sometimes make roaring sounds.

The people of earth are special. Every day is a birthday.

How do humans live the dangerous earth?

They would do for heart and soul.
