Yesterday the statewide Muddy Water Watch effort began in the Neuse River Basin just outside Raleigh. This is a project that seeks to train over 200 volunteers to help monitor active construction sites for erosion control problems. With over 50 people in attendance for the first training the project is off to a great start. Seven Riverkeepers from around the staee wil soon begin trainings to help protect local waterways.

The French Broad Riverkeeper and RiverLink will kick off the second leg of this statewide training effort Tuesday night in Asheville. The goal of the program is help reduce the number one polluter in the French Broad Watershed- sediment. Speakers for this three day training include the Neuse Riverkeeper, French Broad Riverkeeper, representatives from the Division of Water Quality and Land Quality, Southwings, Baker Engineering, City of Asheville, and NC State.
Training dates are scheduled for January 29th, February 12th, and 23rd. The last training date, Muddy Water Watchers will go into the field to practice the skills they have learned.
