| | Buncombe County Commissioners vote to conserve land
Three
cheers for the Buncombe County Commissioners. At their last meeting
they unanimously appropriated over $2 million dollars to save scared
places throughout our community! Will Rogers is right– we have to buy land now and put it aside for the future because “they ain’t making anymore!” | RiverLink welcomes our new Adopt-a-Stream Teams! Team: The Rotary Club of Asheville Stream: French Broad River at Carrier Park “The
riverbank was relatively clean- stream was high due to recent rains.
The terrain near EDACO has accumulated trash and submerged tires.
Volunteers cleaned Carrier Park and Amboy Rd. bridge area.
Rotarians will be interested in keeping Carrier Park
clean due to previous work on covered pavilion in the park. We are
pleased about the EDACO purchase and look forward to the eventual
inclusion of this area in Carrier Park.” -Larry Thompson, Chair, Environmental Committee Team: New Life Community Church Stream: French Broad River on Riverside Dr.

The French Broad by Wilma Dykeman
“In
this mountain country, November is the month for classic beauty. Lines
are clear and simple. Colors are subdued earth shades. Only those who
know well and deeply these hills and rivers and their valleys can find
them beautiful in this starkness, as a doctor may find a skeleton
beautiful in its precision of bone and joint without camouflage of
flesh. November strips the trees and leaves their branches in etched
design against the sky, strips the hills and reveals their contours-
every winding path and rocky ridge and scooped-out gully-and finally
reveals the river." Click here to continue reading and to purchase your copy of The French Broad - Makes a great gift for all ages! |
