Railroad Quiet Zone

Meeting Rescheduled

Due to bad weather, RiverLink is rescheduling the Railroad Quiet Zone Meeting from January 17th to February 21st at 6 PM at the AB Tech Campus, Simpson Auditorium. 

Our guest speakers are Thomas Drake,  Grade Crossing Manager for the Federal Railroad Administration,  Audio Engineer Dr. Bruce Ikelheimer, Community Consultant Ed Harris and local developer and HUD inspector Regina Trantham.

Community Drought Forum
Free and open to the public

February 22 at 8:00am
AB Tech Asheville Campus

Join RiverLink for a community forum focusing on the drought in the French Broad River watershed. Speakers will cover various aspects of the drought including groundwater, economic impact, the role of stormwater management and low impact development.  "In order to get through this drought and to sustain our increasing population we must move towards a more water and energy efficient economy," said Bill Holman, senior fellow at Duke's Nicholas Institute and keynote speaker at the forum.

The forum will take place on February 22 at 8am at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College's Ferguson Auditorium. The forum is free and open to the public... read more

Earth Day Art & Writing Contest

The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970 to celebrate our Earth and the wonders it provides and to recognize and address the problems facing it. Students are invited to continue this tradition by exploring the French Broad River Watershed through art and writing and submitting their work to RiverLink's second annual Earth Day Art & Writing Contest.

Entries will be grouped in categories by either writing or artwork and grade: K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12.  All entries should be submitted to RiverLink no later than March 21, 2008. Entries will be judged by RiverLink staff and volunteers and winners will be displayed in Pack Place Community Gallery during the month of April... read more

Water demand in the French Broad River basin is projected to grow by 40 percent by the year 2020, while the available supply won't change much, according to a 2001 report by the N.C. Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
