AmeriCorps Project Conserve Members:

RiverLink fills two AmeriCorps Project Conserve positions each year: Education Coordinator and Outreach/Volunteer Coordinator. Project Conserve is an initiative of the Carolina Mountain Conservancy (CMLC). More information and an application can be found on their website. Applications are due in May. Positions start in September.
Time Commitment: Project Conserve positions are an 11-month commitment. Members must work a total of 1700 hours during this period. (an average of 40 hours/week)
Compensation: Members earn a living stipend of
$12,300
over the 11-month term of service (Please be aware that the living stipend is taxed, when you are considering your ability to budget living expenses effectively.) Upon successful completion of the program, each member will also receive an education award of $5,550. This award can be used to pay off existing school loans or to apply to future education. Other benefits include health insurance and childcare assistance (if needed).
Special Events:
RiverLink holds annual events where volunteers are the backbone of a successfully run event. Volunteers are needed for:
Activities: Fundraising, planning, publicizing, tabling, event logistics
Events: RiverFest: Save the French Broad in August , Fins & Gills Fishing Classic Tournament in May, French Broad River Yacht Club events (1-2 times a year) and other outreach and tabling events

K-12 Watershed Education:

Every year RiverLink presents dozens of watershed-based environmental education programs for students in the French Broad River watershed- from Kids in the Creek stream studies to River of Words and Art, these interdisciplinary lessons aim to educate and inspire the next generation of river stewards.
Volunteers with backgrounds in education and environmental science are encouraged to participate. All volunteers are required to go through a background check before workingwith children.

Time Commitment: K-12 VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE WEEKDAY AVAILABILITY

River Cleanups:
Make a difference by participating in a river cleanup with RiverLink and our Adopt-a-Stream teams. Cleanups open to the public are posted on our website under upcoming events where you just need to email or call the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at volunteer@riverlink.org or 828-252-8474 ext. 11 to participate. Please wear old clothes and shoes that can get wet/dirty - sneakers or water shoes are recommended to prevent slipping. RiverLink may provide waders for cleanups during colder weather - please bring shoes to wear over wader feet. You are welcome to bring your own waders.

Riverbank and Rain Garden Restoration Projects :
RiverLink organizes river bank and rain garden restoration projects several times a year. Volunteers are needed to help remove invasive species and install native plants to absorb rain water and filter out sediment and pollutants. All restoration projects are posted on our website under upcoming events where you just need to email or call the Volunteer Outreach Coordinator at volunteer@riverlink.org or 828-252-8474 ext. 11 to participate. Please wear old clothes and shoes that can get wet/dirty. You are welcome to bring your gardening tools labeled with your name as RiverLink has limited tools.

Provide much-needed help entering data into our system, filing, making phone calls, archiving, scanning, and other activities in the office. Must be
computer-proficient (Word, Excel).

River District Bus Tour Guides:

Take visitors on a past, present, and future exploration of the river district. This is a two hour, monthly bus tour that is a great way to learn
more about Asheville, the river, and the future plans for the river. Tours are given 3rd Thursdays each month from September through May. Guides are responsible for giving audio tour; City of Asheville provides the driver.
Time Commitment: 3 hours/month

Outing guides:
More info
Lead and organize day trips in or along the French Broad River. Educate adults and children about the French Broad ecosystem.
Lead interpretive hikes/walks/hands-on lessons, such as insect, tree, plant, fish, and bird I.D.
Time Commitment: 1-2 outings/ month, 3 hours each
